This long-standing landmark was the facade of Church of Mater Dei, which was destroyed by fire in 1595, 1601 and 1835. The chuch was part of St. Paul college, which was the first western-styled university in the Far East. The facade displays a unique combination of east and west elements.
It is the oldest temple in Macau, containing a variety of pavilions dedicated to the worship of different deities. It was also the place where the first Portuguese settlers landed in Macau.
